WILDE IRISH PRESENTS MCDONAGH PLAY
The Cripple of Inishmaan, Martin McDonagh's comedy set
in a remote, Irish island village opened last Friday,
March 30, at the Berkeley City Club. Following on
the heels of The Pillow Man, presented by the Berkeley
Rep, Martin McDonagh takes us on another kind of
roller coaster ride. When word arrives from Johny,
who always brings the "news" that a Hollywood director
is coming to a neighboring island to film his new
movie, young Cripple Billy is determined to be in it.
Filled with an ensemble group of colorful characters,
all beautifully played by Breda Courtney, Esther
Mulligan, Howard Dillon, Eddie Fitzgerald, Andrew Sa,
Bryn Elizan Harris, Arthur Scippaticci, Shelly Lynn
Johnson and Martin Waldron, The Cripple of Inishmaan
weaves an intricate pattern of storytelling at its
finest, and is directed by Stephanie Courtney-Foss,
who pays careful attention to setting up the many
surprises along the way.
Future performances of this delightful play will be
held at the Berkeley City Club from April 4-15 at 2315
Durant Avenue, Berkeley and at the Magic Theatre, Fort
Mason Center, Building D, San Francisco from April
19-29, 2007. For tickets, contact 510-644-9940 or
